Massacre of Red Crescent and Civil Defense paramedics

At 5:20 a.m. on March 23, a joint team from the Palestinian Red Crescent, Civil Defense, and a UN agency responded to distress calls from wounded Palestinians trapped inside.

They set out with purely humanitarian intentions, carrying nothing but bandages and sincere hearts, but – without knowing it – they were the next target of the Israeli occupation army.

But what began as a rescue mission ended in a bloody massacre. Shortly after the team set out, contact with them was lost, and hours later, the occupying forces declared the area a closed military zone.

A convoy of Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances, a UN vehicle, and a fire truck from the Gaza Civil Defense came under fire in the Tel al-Sultan area. Israel initially said its forces opened fire because the convoy of vehicles approached “suspiciously” in the dark without headlights or lights on, and that the movement of the vehicles had not been coordinated or agreed upon in advance with the military….
