AOHR condemns the Massacre of Al-Tabi’in school
The massacre is a new proof that the International Order has failed and expired
Shalaby: Al-Tabi’in massacre firms the Occupation’s response to the trilateral summit initiative and the negligent of the International Accountability Mechanisms
The Arab Organization for Human Rights (AOHR) condemns the massacre of civilians that took place at dawn today, in which the Israeli aggression deliberately inflicted maximum human losses among defenseless Palestinian civilians as part of its strategy to undermine the effectiveness of international efforts to halt the hostilities.
The Israeli aggression targeted hundreds of civilians during their gathering for dawn prayers at Al-Tabi’in School in the Al-Daraj neighborhood in central Gaza City—an area known to the occupation forces as housing thousands of displaced civilians who had already lost their homes and tens of thousands of their brethren over the past ten months. This massacre is one of the many atrocities that the occupation authorities have admitted to committing.
The AOHR firmly believes that the occupation would not have been able to continue this extensive series of atrocities, amounting to nearly 4,000 collective massacres, without the failure of the international order to deter it and enforce the well-established rules of international law.
The AOHR is also convinced that the United States’ complicity in providing absolute protection to the occupation and aggression—through thwarting UN Security Council resolutions, undermining the effectiveness of International Court of Justice rulings, and continuing the supply of lethal weapons used against defenseless civilians—has allowed for the continuation and escalation of aggression, enabling the occupation to ignite a full-scale war in the region, which would decisively undermine international peace.
Mr. Alaa Shalaby, President of the organization, stated that the current international system is obsolete and can no longer be relied upon. He pointed out that the International Court of Justice’s rulings indicating the potential for genocide against the residents of the Gaza Strip should have automatically triggered immediate action to prevent the continuation of this crime.
Shalaby also regarded this massacre as a response from the occupation to the American-Egyptian-Qatari trilateral summit initiative aimed at resuming ceasefire negotiations.
Furthermore, Shalaby expressed regret over the stance of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, who delayed for three years in fulfilling his duties, procrastinated in issuing arrest warrants against the leaders of the occupation until May 2024, and failed to charge them with Genocide. Additionally, no indictments were directed at any military or security officials of the occupation, which could weaken the strength of the charges brought forward.
Shalaby concluded by urging the U.S. Secretary of State to direct pressure towards halting Israeli aggression and ceasing the supply of American weapons, rather than complicating matters and dispersing responsibilities through intensive daily communication with the governments of the region.
